AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY

Purveyor of the written word, Nancy Loyan Schuemann has covered the gambit, from writing history books on Cleveland, Ohio to writing for local, regional and national publications, specializing in construction, architecture, design, histories and special interest.

Nancy has been writing ever since she began composing picture books for fellow students in elementary school. Only during the past ten years has she pursued writing professionally. Hers is a life gone full circle.

After graduating with a BSBA degree in Marketing from John Carroll University (Phi Theta Kappa honors fraternity and Who’s Who Among Junior College Students), her career has been varied. Jobs held range from retail management, government/major accounts representative for a Canon copier dealer, pharmaceutical sales, account manager for an advertising/public relations firm and assisting her husband with his architectural photography business.

She has had training in commercial art, voiceovers and on-camera acting (Television Workshop and The Cleveland Playhouse), hosted a cable television show for Cuyahoga Community College and has modeled in fashion shows. In addition, Nancy has been a community and church volunteer and fundraiser (Past-President of the Health Museum Auxiliary, Past-President of Chapter CD-PEO, Past-President of the Northeast Ohio Chapter of Romance Writers of America, church historian, member of COSE’s Home Business Advisory Council, member of the Poets and Writers League of Greater Cleveland and member of the South Euclid Committee of Arts and Culture.

When she’s not writing, Nancy teaches Middle Eastern dance as “Nailah” to a growing following of students and performs with The Cleveland Oasis Dance Company, of which she is director. She also directs a youth praise/liturgical dance company at her church. In her scarce free time she enjoys reading, sewing, figure skating, collecting antique safes (has 50 safes from the 1840’s on) and spending time with her husband of 20+years, Bill, and black Labrador Retriever-Pointers, Topaz and Amber.

Nancy’s writing career has been as varied as her life. From being a reporter for a local newspaper (winning a NCPA Press Award) to to a regular contributor to Safe and Vault Technology magazine,

Properties magazine (www.PropertiesMag.com) and Cleveland Magazine (www.ClevelandMagazine.com), she has been published in construction, architecture, design, histories, profiles, travel and special interest.

Nancy was commissioned to write and coordinate publication of a local history book, On the Threshold of a New Century: The City of South Euclid, 1967-1999. In the summer of 2004, the book experienced a revival, culminating in a successful book signing at Joseph-Beth Booksellers and speaking engagements.

In 2007, Nancy was selected to write the narrative of an upscale coffee table book, Cleveland, Ohio: A Photographic Portrait, published in summer of 2008 and widely distributed.
